Attention parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders: The Reading Incentive Program is a PTA-sponsored activity that encourages kids to read books in each of twenty-one different genres, or categories. Students participate in this program during their classroom’s Media Center time each week. They receive prizes as they read books in seven, fourteen, and all twenty-one of the genres. Last year we had all upper classes participating, and over 100 students completed the program!
The Reading Incentive Program is underway in most 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classrooms, but we are still in need of volunteers. Kids participate in the program during their classroom’s library time, and we need parents (or grandparents) to help kids find books, record their selections, and distribute prizes. If you have some availability during the school day, please consider helping. It’s a great chance to spend time with the students! If you would like to help but are not available at that time, there are other jobs to be done also!
