Science Olympiad is a nationally-recognized, non-profit program that provides children in grades K-5 with hands-on learning activities designed to spark the imagination and illuminate the world of science. Sign up today to participate in Northwood PTA’s Science Olympiad Fun Night. Teams of four students get to experience a series of fun and exciting half-hour events. A few of the events are noted below:
- Marshmallow Tower – Build the tallest or strongest tower using marshmallows and toothpicks.
- Aerodynamics Aloft – How does a paper airplane fly ?
- Marble Roller Coaster – Build the fastest or longest roller coaster using cardboard tubes.
This is a tremendous team building event. Each assigned group will have a team color and name and will spend the evening solving problems together. Every effort will be made to keep students on grade level teams, but it might be necessary to have a few split-level groups. We match parent team leaders (chaperones) to teams as the forms come in, so it’s a completely random process. Thank you for your support of this system.
Please use the attached form to sign up your child (one form per family) for the Science Olympiad Fun Night. There is a small charge of $3.00 per child to cover the supplies for this event. Please return the form to school along with cash or checks (payable to Northwood PTA) byFebruary 4th. Registration forms received after the deadline will be waitlisted and added as space allows. No forms will be accepted after February 15, 2013. Team assignments will go home February 25th, 2013. If you have any questions, please email the committee chair at email@example.com.
In an effort to be courteous to our “Science Experts” leading the experiments and in addition to provide a safe environment for the kids participating; Only adults with volunteer badges will be allowed on site during the event. If you would like to come please sign up as a volunteer and we will find you a spot.
Help make our Science Olympiad a scientific success…. We are in need of volunteers especially team leaders. We could also use some parent volunteers with knowledge of Structural Engineering , Physics, Aerodynamics, Animal Habitats, wilderness, Forensics, Crime scene investigation, & Chemistry. Please indicate your interest on the registration form.
