Together Gabe and Frita are going to spend the summer of 1976 facing down the fears on Gabe’s list. Why not call it a frindle? Things begin innocently enough as Nick gets his friends to use the new word.

Battle of the Books – Janauary

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever

Age Level: 8 and up

The authorities are closing in, but when a surprise blizzard hits, the Heffley family is trapped indoors. Greg knows that when the snow melts he’s going to have to face the music, but could any punishment be worse than being stuck inside with your family for the holidays?

The Adventures of Tintin: A Novel (Movie Tie-In)

Age Level: 7 and up | Grade Level: 3 and up
Don’t miss this expanded novelization of the action-packed film! Tintin stumbles across a model ship at the Old Street Market. Only it isn’t any model ship–it holds a piece of the puzzle to finding the resting place of Red Rackham’s treasure! But Tintin isn’t the only ones after the notorious pirate’s booty. With dangerous treasure seekers at their heels, Tintin and his dog, Snowy, are on a high-stakes thrill ride, that takes them from land to sea, from open air to the ocean floor!

Stir It Up: A Novel
Age Level: 10 and up | Grade Level: 5 and up
A Trinidadian-American girl’s dream is challenged by her family

Thirteen-year-old Anjali’s life is rich with the smell of curry from her parents’ roti shop and an absolute passion for food. More than anything, Anjali wants to be a chef who competes on a kids’ cooking reality TV show. But Anjali must keep her wish a secret from her family, who thinks Anjali’s passions are beneath her. Thank goodness for Deema, Anjali’s grandmother, whose insight and love can push past even the oldest family beliefs. Woven with recipes that cook up emotions and actual culinary recipes that make food, this novel is as delicious as it is satisfying.
Little Lucy (Step into Reading)

Age Level: 5 and up | Grade Level: K and up | Series: Step into Reading
Learn to read with Ilene Cooper’s adorable beagle puppy, Lucy!

Lucy likes to run. She likes to bark. She likes to chew and howl. But when Bobby and his family take her to a lake, she finds out there’s one thing she doesn’t like—the water!

Step 3 (Reading on Your Own) is for children who are ready to read independently. Step 3 titles have stories with easy-to-follow plots and engaging characters.

Judy Moody, Girl Detective (Book #9)
Age Level: 6 and up | Grade Level: 1 and up | Series: Judy Moody
It’s an honest-to-jeepers mystery! Agent Judy Drewdy sets out to solve the case of the missing puppy when a canine-cop-in-training vanishes into thin air.

Judy Moody is in a mood. A sleuthing, Nancy Drew kind of mood. So what’s a WBMS (world’s best mystery solver) to do? Go find a mystery, that’s what! And she doesn’t have to snoop for long: when Mr. Chips, a beloved crime-dog-in-training, goes missing, Judy Drewdy and her chums, agents Dills Pickle (Frank), Spuds Houdini (Rocky), and James Madagascar (Stink) find themselves smack-dab in the middle of a reallife, scare-your-pants-off whodunit. Was Mr. Chips stolen by dirty dognappers? And why are chocolate-chip cookies disappearing all over town? Watch out for red herrings—along with clever references to classic Nancy Drew mysteries—as Eagle Eye Moody and company are hot on the case!

Amazing Armadillos (Step into Reading)
Age Level: 5 and up | Grade Level: K and up | Series: Step into Reading
Armadillos may look funny, move oh-so-slowly, and smell a little stinky but mostly they are extraordinary! For example, they can jump three feet in the air to scare away any predators (especially the human variety), they can hold their breath underwater for 10 minutes, and they’ve been known to eat 40,000 bugs in a single meal.

Amazing Armadillos follows a female armadillo as she forages for food, builds a home, and prepares for the birth of her baby pups. It is perfect for newly independent readers who love to learn fun, quirky, and cool facts about amazing animals, like the armadillo.
