Construction has begun. The trees and fence are being removed and the orange fencing is going up. Starting Monday, March 19th the parking lot and circle drive will no longer be available for pick-up and drop-off. Please use alternate rountines. We will keep you posted on information as we receive it.
There will be a ground breaking ceremony at Northwood. The date is still to be determined.

Update as of February 26, 2007

We are happy to report that the construction of the new Northwood Elementary School will begin early next month (March) weather permitting. The plan for the construction site will encompass our entire large playground and a portion of our parking lot. This will create the need for changes in our parking lot. This will create the need for changes in our parking arrangements and lunch scheduling. Much of this planning was done last year in anticipation of the changes to come.

The parking lot, which is already limited, will become more limited in the coming months. Please consider the following alternatives:

  • carpooling

  • Park on a neighborhood side street and walk to Northwood

  • Use of our Latch Key Program (for more information contact Lincoln Early childhood Center at 248-546-4336)

  • Walk from home (if possible)

On site parking will be available for staff members only. Drop off and pick up will be limited to the small circle drive.

At lunchtime, the children will still be offered a combination of a time to eat, and a time to play. The recess portion of the lunch hour will be have some children using the small playground; supervised game and activity stations will be available inside. All children will be able to go outside daily, weather permitting, sometime during the school day.

Our evacution procedures will remain the same These changes are already in effect.

Update as of November, 2006

Dr. Thomas Moline, Royal Oak School Superintendent, addressed the PTA attendees with an update regarding the "new" Northwood. The ground breaking for the new school has been delayed until the Spring of 2007. It is projected that the new school will be ready for the Fall of 2008.

We will update this site as soon as new information arises.
