Welcome to the start of the 2017-18 school year! We are excited for this year, as we have many returning PTA Chairs and Executive Board Members! Please join us at our PTA Meetings the second Monday of each month (except February) at 7 p.m. in the Cafetorium. We have snacks, free babysitting, and present on our events and budget. It is a great way to be involved, meet other parents and teachers, and gain information about our school and our Royal Oak School District’s initiatives.
Last year, Northwood PTA presented our school’s faculty with books for the guided reading rooms, Chrome books carts and iPad carts for the Upper and Lower levels to ensure our students and teachers have the resources necessary for every student. The library was given new materials and books as well. We donated money and gifts to families in need, as we do annually. The annual Fun Run is on Thursday, October 5th and is our largest fundraiser. We value everyone’s participation and generosity to provide the school the resources as we purchased and presented each year, as well as many educational and family events. Our first event, the Family Picnic, is Friday, September 22nd and will be a great opportunity to meet new and see returning families, enjoy food, and fun activities! Please watch for information over the next several weeks.
Many more events are upcoming as well, with Trunk or Treat and Family Movie Night, Battle of the Books (BoB), Family Pottery Night, Talent Show, Science Olympiad, and our Sweetheart and Super Hero Dances. Our Community Affairs gatherings around the holidays are a great way to share time and donations for families in need. The Scholastic Book Fairs are in the Fall and Spring, so please prepare for great reading finds to keep our students reading! Field Day and the Fun Fair will be toward the end of the school year to celebrate another great Northwood school year!
Please look for availability of PTA Membership forms on our website, www.neropta.com, and at school. Individual Membership is $7 and a Family Membership is $14, which is payable by check or cash. Please look for us throughout the school to assist you in applying; you may also print the form and send it, with your payment, to school for placement into our PTA drawer in the main office.
There are many opportunities for volunteering in the classroom and at our PTA events throughout the year. Our New Volunteer Orientation sessions are 45 minutes and a great way to learn the basics for your volunteering in the classroom and events. Please join us! We look forward to meeting our returning and our new families to our Northwood Elementary family!
