Cultural Arts Assembly: Author Visit for Reading Month
In celebration of Reading Month, we are thrilled to welcome Maria Dismondy to Northwood!
During her visit, students will have the opportunity to learn about the entire process of writing a book — from the very first idea to the final published copy. Maria will also share valuable lessons she has learned along her journey as an author, encouraging young writers to dream big and persevere.
Cultural Arts Assembly: Wonders of Michigan Assembly
The Magical Wonders of Michigan assembly brings learning to life with laughter, amazement, and plenty of state pride! Magical entertainer Eugene Clark takes students on an interactive journey through Michigan’s geography, history, and people using magic, humor, and colorful visual props. From the Great Lakes and early French settlers to modern-day cities and government, students discover what makes Michigan unique.
With the help of student volunteers, the 45-minute program explores Michigan’s agriculture, including apples, cherries, and honey, as well as the state flower, animal, and rock. A favorite moment features students creating a magical snow storm while learning about Michigan’s four seasons.

Halloween @ Northwood
Halloween Fun at School on 10/31
Halloween Parade
Our Halloween Parade is scheduled for 10/31 at 11:45 AM, weather permitting. Classes will walk behind their teachers in grade order, starting with DK/K and ending with 5th grade.
Parade route: All classes will exit the North playground doors, walk around to the front of the building, walk south on the sidewalk in front of the building, and end at the South playground doors, where they will enter and go back to class.
Families are welcome to watch!
Please stay off the sidewalks from the north playground to the south playground so there is a clear route for the parade.
Please do not pull your child out of line, as they will be following their teacher and we need to keep classes together. Safety first!
Students are still in class during the parade, and cannot leave the parade to go home with you. If you want to check your child out early, you can do that when the parade is over by going into the office , signing the student check-out sheet, and our secretary will call the classroom to have your child come down. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe!
10/31 is a half day with dismissal at 12:15pm.
Costume Guidelines
Costumes are optional. If your child would like to wear a costume on Halloween, please bring them to school in their costume. Costume guidelines:
No masks or face paint
No costumes that promote violence
Nothing blood or gore, or anything too scary. Remember there are little ones in the school.
No toy weapons or props
